EMME Project Kicks Off Digital Work in Slovakia

Spišská Nová Ves, Slovakia | August 20–22, 2024

The EMME – Exchanging Memories, Memory of the Earth project reached an exciting new phase with its third transnational partnership meeting, held in Spišská Nová Ves, Slovakia, from August 20th to 22nd, 2024.

Hosted by Základná škola Hutnícka, the meeting officially launched Work Package 3 – #EMME Goes Digital, focusing on the development of the project’s mobile application: an innovative learning tool that brings the EMME curriculum to life.

Participants from Romania, Portugal, Croatia, and Slovakia came together to define the app’s structure and features. Through hands-on workshops, brainstorming sessions, and collaborative planning, the team outlined the main components of the app, which will include gamified missions, photo challenges, geolocation tasks, and a carbon footprint calculator. The app will support both in-class and outdoor learning, helping students connect with nature through digital exploration.

In addition to work sessions, the programme featured cultural visits to Belianska Cave, High Tatras, Spišská Nová Ves, Slovak Paradise, Levoča, and Košice, strengthening the partnership and grounding the digital content in real-world heritage.

This meeting marked a key turning point in the project, shifting from curriculum development to digital innovation. The app is currently being tested in schools across all partner countries, with a full release planned for Spring 2025.

As EMME goes digital, students will soon have a powerful new way to learn, explore, and connect with the memory of the Earth — one mission at a time.
