Activity 2 – EMME App – Learn. Explore. Connect.

At the core of Work Package 3, the EMME mobile app brings the Memory of the Earth curriculum to life through technology. Developed by ZŠ Hutnícka, Slovakia, in collaboration with all partners, the app is designed to support students and teachers in exploring their local environment, understanding geological heritage, and taking action for sustainability — all in a dynamic, gamified way.

🎯 What Is the EMME App?

The EMME App is a free, interactive mobile tool that complements the EMME curriculum. It helps students learn by doing, observing, mapping, calculating, and storytelling, turning the outdoors into a learning space.
Designed with accessibility and flexibility in mind, the app can be used:
• In the classroom
• During school trips and field visits
• At home, independently or in groups

Key Features

🧠 Gamified Learning Paths

Mini-quizzes and challenges based on the five curriculum modules: Geology, Biodiversity, Sustainability, Culture, and Mapping

Students complete outdoor observation tasks and upload real-life photos (e.g. identifying fossils, mapping ecosystems, finding cultural landmarks)

📸 Photo Missions

🧭 Carbon Footprint Calculator

A user-friendly tool to raise awareness of individual and collective environmental impact

Digital storytelling modules where students build their own narrative based on field observations

📚 Student Storyboards

🗺️ Geolocation and Field Tasks

Location-based challenges that activate only when the user is physically present in a specific area (e.g. local park, museum, or Geopark site)

👩‍🏫 For Teachers

  • Access to classroom content and tracking of student progress
  • Ready-to-use missions and editable templates
  • Ideal for interdisciplinary and outdoor lessons
  • Aligned with EMME curriculum and sustainability competencies

🛠️ Current Status

  • App development started in August 2024, following the Slovakia partnership meeting
  • Testing and feedback are being collected from teachers and students in all partner countries
